Frequently Asked Questions
Products & Quality
Single estate means that the olives used to make the oil come from one specific farm or grove, rather than being sourced from multiple places and blended together. This ensures complete traceability, meaning you know exactly where your olive oil comes from, who grew it, and how it was made. Single estate oils often have a distinct taste that reflects the variety, unique soil, climate, and farming practices of that particular location.
Early harvest olive oil comes from olives picked before they fully ripen, usually in October or November (that’s also guaranteed by harvest date on the bottles and pouches). These olives yield less olive oil but pack more intense flavor and higher antioxidants. That means a vibrant, peppery and healthier extra-virgin olive oil for you.
“Freshly squeezed olive juice” refers to extra virgin olive oil that is mechanically pressed (or cold extracted) without heat, chemicals, or additives. This process preserves the olives’ natural flavors, aromas, and health benefits, resulting in a pure, unaltered oil - straight from the tree to your table.
Real extra virgin olive oil should have a fresh, vibrant aroma (think green grass, tomatoes, or artichokes) and a balanced taste with some fruitiness, slight bitterness and a peppery finish. It should never taste musty, greasy or rancid. It must also have a free acidity expressed as oleic acid of less than 0.8 - in our case it’s less than 0.1. At Grovehood, we share all 3rd party lab test results for full transparency.
No two olive oils are the same, and that’s worth experiencing. Each variety reflects a unique combination of olive variety, terroir, and the producer’s craftsmanship. From aroma to flavor, every bottle tells its own unique story, showcasing the exceptional, unaltered quality of premium olive oil.
That bold, peppery sensation and slight bitterness are actually signs of fresh, high-quality extra virgin olive oil! These flavors come from antioxidants called polyphenols, which are naturally present in early harvest oils. When olives are picked early, they produce oil with a vibrant, green, and grassy character - along with that signature throat-tingling finish. It’s not a flaw; it’s proof of freshness and a high polyphenol count, which makes the oil healthier.
No. We only focus on pure, high-quality extra virgin olive oils to highlight the natural flavor profiles created by each variety, producer and region characteristics.
We partner only with producers who farm for the future, meaning that no chemicals or pesticides are used in the farming and biodiversity preserved in the groves.
However, we don’t/won’t demand certification from all the producers as it is a costly and lengthy process that can be challenging for small-scale producers. At the moment, our Spanish producer is certified organic, and our Italian producer holds a sustainability certification. Both follow organic practices, prioritize soil health, biodiversity and low-impact farming; ensuring exceptional olive oil while protecting their groves for future generations.
Keep it in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Our bottles are designed to protect the oil from light exposure, but for maximum freshness, use it within a few months after opening and don’t keep it next to your stove.
Olive oil is best enjoyed as fresh as possible, which is why knowing the harvest date is so important. While not common practice in the industry, we include the harvest date on all our labels to keep you informed. Typically, the “best before” date is 18–24 months from harvest, and this is also noted on the label.
However, once the bottle is opened, don’t save it just for special occasions—save it by consuming it fresh! We recommend finishing the bottle within 3 months to fully enjoy its flavors and health benefits.
Certainly! High-quality extra virgin olive oil is packed with mono-unsaturated fats and antioxidants, making it more stable when heated compared to refined oils, which break down easily and lose their nutritional value. Unlike common misconceptions, extra virgin olive oil retains its benefits in cooking, whether you're sautéing, roasting or even frying. Plus, it enhances the flavor of your dishes in a way no other oil can!

Sustainability & Refills
We love glass bottles for many reasons. They’re chic, elegant, and functional. The dark color protects the olive oil from light, preserving its quality for longer. We’ve also selected one of the coolest designs available, making it a stylish and lasting part of your kitchen.
Of course they are also 100% recyclable. However, with eco-friendly, zero-carbon-footprint refill closures, our bottles are designed to have a second life - and a third. Glass is the best material for preserving olive oil, and we’re committed to ensuring these bottles are reused rather than discarded after a single use.
Our refill pouches are made of mono-material plastic, which produces less waste and carbon footprint than alternative packaging. It’s currently the most sustainable option for refilling purposes. We’re always striving to improve our practices and offer the best solutions possible for both quality and sustainability.
We’ve designed our shipment packaging to be as eco-friendly as possible without compromising on safety. All our materials are recyclable, and our shipping sleeves, made from honeycomb material, are plastic-free, biodegradable, compostable, and recyclable. They’re not only protective but can also be reused for carrying other fragile items.
We strive to minimize waste wherever possible while ensuring your products arrive safe and sound.
